The museum of Eleftherna is situated 25 km north-east of Rethymno, near the Monastery of Arkadi. It is a modern 1,700 sq.m. building which looks like an ark and houses significant findings of the ancient city. It is the most important archaeological site in Rethymno, which hasn't yet been fully excavated but archaeologists expect to make valuable archaeological discoveries.
The first excavations began in 1985 and were carried out by the University of Crete.
A museum that certainly worth a visit to one of the most beautiful landscapes in Crete.
